Hydrowood becomes part of UTAS history
Leading Tasmanian furniture designer and lecturer Simon Ancher was given the honour of being the first to work with Hydrowood and discovered how the Blackhearted Sassafras handled. We’re happy to say it graduated with flying colours.
Simon crafted a ceremonial rod for the University of Tasmania which is now used at graduation ceremonies and making our timber an ongoing part of the University’s history. Simon described the timber he used as a very relaxed and much easier to machine and shape than traditional Sassafras.
Along with being impressed at the timber’s beautiful colour when polished, Simon described working with the Blackheart like ‘working with butter.’ Simon is looking forward to working with Hydrowood in the future.
